Edgy high fashion isn't always the most flattering thing to wear. That's what some celebrities may have discovered at the Met Costume Gala.
For an actress, walking the red carpet at the star-studded Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute Gala is a huge deal -- a dream come true for most. They're selected by famous international designers to be models for these arbiters of taste for the evening, and mega hoopla accompanies the entire event.
But sometimes cutting-edge fashion trends are not all that flattering.
Take former child star/designer Mary-Kate Olsen, Twilight icon and star of the upcoming adventure film Snow White and the Huntsman Kristen Stewart, and Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine fame, for instance. One has to wonder if they are all that thrilled with their fashion selections.
Olsen, herself a fashion designer at just 25, wore a frighteningly dour black silk Dark Shadows-esque gown from her label The Row, and finished off her goth look with Christian Louboutin shoes and Fred Leighton jewels.
Stewart, 22, rocked a bizarre color and print blocked Balenciaga dress by Nicolas Ghesquière with what looks like ankle socks worn with high heels. And the 25-year-old Florence + the Machine lead singer wore an gi-normous beige ruffled Alexander McQueen lampshade gown to the star-studded affair this evening.
